You are invited to a unique lecture devoted to the influence of Italian Baroque beyond the borders of Italy. On Tuesday, May 6, Protected content 6:00 p.m., a meeting entitled Berniniβs influence beyond Italy: sculptures of St. Elisabeth Chapel in Poland will be held at theProtected content which will be led by Ms. MaΕgorzata Gonia from Adam Mickiewicz University in PoznaΕ.
The subject of the lecture will be the 17th-century chapel of St. Elizabeth of Hungary at the cathedral in WrocΕaw, founded by Cardinal Frederick of Hesse. It was he, the Protestant Prince of Hesse, who converted to Catholicism in Rome, who initiated the construction of a chapel inspired by Roman models, bringing to WrocΕaw the works of the most outstanding sculptors of the era: Domenico Guidi, Ercole Ferrata and Bernardino Fioriti.
Chapel of St. Today, the Elizabethan Chapel is one of the most extraordinary examples of the artistic import of Italian Baroque north of the Alps. During the lecture, we will learn about the history of its creation, a formal and stylistic analysis of the sculptural decoration, and the ideological meanings carried by this impressive project β a manifesto of faith, political prestige, and the artistic aspirations of the founder.
